7.1
Meet professional ethics and responsibilities
Understand and apply the key principles described in codes of ethics and conduct for the teaching profession.
I see myself as an important role model within the school context and the wider community and will continue to represent the Teaching profession’s Codes of Ethics. As a Pre-service teacher working at Ross Park I have had the responsibility to uphold the core values of the profession of teaching namely integrity, respect, justice, empathy and dignity which are stated in the Code of Ethics for the Northern Territory and the schools code of conduct. Feedback from various staff and the offer of employment for next year has demonstrated this.
An example of my professionalism shown during my final placement has been the way I have conducted myself during teacher parent meetings. I have respected confidentiality towards sensitive information discussed during these meetings and have acted in a diplomatic and empathetic manner when asked to engage in the discussions.
During my placement at Ross Park I was the coach of the school’s girls and boys cricket teams. Following the NT Cricket T20 Blast competition, one of the teams has been invited to Melbourne to compete at the MCG against schools from around Australia. Having been asked to accompany the students on this tour is a further indication of me being responsible.

7.2
Comply with legislative, administrative and organisational requirements
Understand the relevant legislative, administrative and organisational policies and processes required for teachers according to school stage.
The way I have organised my placements which took place at four different schools and in three different states and territories demonstrates that I am able to meet administrative and organisational requirements. This has been followed by my successful ability to register with the Department of Education in order to commence my teaching career in 2015. I am familiar with duty of care procedures, a skill which was boosted during my four and half years of being a Youth Worker and which my mentors have provided me with a deeper understanding. I have a strong capacity at meeting administrative requirements, a skill that I put to use over an extensive period during my application for permanent residency in Australia. I have always maintained my personal administration including keeping things like my Working With Children’s Check up to date and intend to continue to apply these skills during my teaching career.

7.3
Engage with the parents/carers
Understand strategies for working effectively, sensitively and confidentially with parents/ carers.
As I have stated in a Standard 1.3, I place high value on having good relationships with parents and carers. Some of the ways I have engaged with parents/carers during my placements include:

As I have stated in a Standard 1.3, I place high value on having good relationships with parents and carers. Some of the ways I have engaged with parents/carers during my placements include:
- Providing them with an introduction letter as the new prac student,
- Sending information notices out for extra curricular events such as the cricket gala event,
- Providing information and photos to parents through school newsletters such as regarding the NT Cricket T20 Blast which can be viewed HERE, and
- I have always ensured that I have made myself available before and after school to talk to parents or teachers. A great opportunity for me to engage with parents happened at Ross Park. During the ‘Goldilocks on Trial’ play family members of 35 students attended performances held over two days.
7.4
Engage with professional teaching networks and broader communities
Understand the role of external professionals and community representatives in broadening teachers’ professional knowledge and practice. During my time as a pre-service teacher and throughout my professional experience I have highly valued the networking opportunities I’ve had with a variety of teachers in different teaching contexts. I have ensured that I have always met as many of the teaching and non-teaching staff as possible in each school I have worked, and through conversation and observation benefited from their experience. I hope that as my teaching career evolves I will be able to continue to expand these networks both at Ross Park school and more broadly during participation in professional development opportunities as well as keeping in touch with fellow graduate students and accessing resources such as teaching journals and online groups associated with teaching. |
